Driving change for diversity and inclusion
Our Employee Resource Groups drive diversity and inclusion change at Abcam. One of these, Women in Leadership instigated a review to understand how we support women in the workplace and identified opportunities for improvement.
They looked at the research, studied data from around the world, and engaged with our people to better understand their priorities.
The group made recommendations, following the guiding principles that the policy should treat everyone the same and that it should be flexible so that people can choose what’s right for their family.
This drove an impactful change to give our people more choice when it comes to family leave and resulted in the launch of our new family leave policy in October 2019.
Because of the ERG, the decision was made to implement a new, global policy increasing full paid maternity leave to 18 weeks and full paid paternity leave to 6 weeks. This applies to people adopting and to same sex parents.
There is ambition to do even more.
